The future v2.0.0, which should be released in Q1 2027, will bring some breaking changes. This guide will help you to prepare for the next major version.

Before upgrading

  • If you run Docker, it is advisable to use the 1.x tag instead of latest. You will be able to decide when you want to upgrade, especially if you are updating containers automatically.

Breaking changes

  • The minimum Java version required will be Java 25:
    • If you run Komga using the jar, you will need to make sure your Java version is sufficient by running java -version.
    • If you run Komga using Docker or the desktop app, you don't need to do anything.
  • The Docker image for ARM32 (linux/arm/v7) will be dropped. ARM32 support globally is declining, and Java support for ARM32 has been dropped since Java 22.
  • Deprecated APIs will be removed. This could have an impact on 3rd party Komga clients, and this advance notice should help to raise awareness to 3rd party developers.
  • HTTP sessions will be exclusively stored in database. This was introduced in 1.29.0 and is being rolled out to all distribution channels. This should not have any impact to users.

A Github issue has been created to track the progress and list all the breaking changes.
